About Andhra Chamber of Commerce

Program Objective

Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution via PIB release, dated June 15, 2021, has announced the phased implementation of mandatory hallmarking of Gold Jewellery with effect from June 16, 2021.

Since gold is of such intrinsic value and is considered to be a popular investment choice for majority of people, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in order to safeguard consumers from adulteration and to oblige jewellers to maintain legal purity standards, has taken this noteworthy step.

Key Highlights of the recent announcement :

  • Hallmarking will be initially be starting from.256 districts of the country which have Assaying marking centres.
  • Jewellers with annual turnover upto Rs. 40 lac will be exempted from mandatory Hall Marking.
  • Gold of Additional carats 20, 23 and 24 will also be allowed for Hall Marking.
  • Jewellers can continue to buy back old gold jewellery without hallmark from consumer.

Hence Andhra Chamber is organising an awareness session for all stakeholders of the Jewellery Sector on the latest announcements.
