Andhra Chamber of Commerce is 92 year old Chamber of Commerce, created with an objective of encouraging Industry and Trade in India in general and in the States of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu in particular. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been established under Food Safety and Standards Act , 2006 , for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.
The Act also aims to establish a single reference point for all matters relating to food safety and standards, by moving from multi- level, multi- departmental control to a single line of command. To this effect, the Act establishes an independent statutory Authority – the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India with head office at Delhi. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the State Food Safety Authorities shall enforce various provisions of the Act.
Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India is the Administrative Ministry for the implementation of FSSAI.
National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) is an accreditation body, with its accreditation system established in accordance with ISO/ IEC 17011. “Conformity Assessment –Requirements for Accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies.”
NABL provides voluntary accreditation services to :
- Testing Laboratories
- Calibration Laboratories
- Medical Testing Laboratories
- Proficiency Testing Providers (PTP)
- Reference Material Producers (RMP)
NABL has been established with the objective of providing Government, Industry Associations and Industry in general with a scheme of Conformity Assessment Body’s accreditation which involves third-party assessment of the technical competence of testing including medical and calibration laboratories, proficiency testing providers and reference material producers.
Program Objective
FSSAI has been releasing some critical announcements for Food Business Operators regarding :
- Extension of period for Modification of License by Existing FSSAI Licensed Manufacturers without modification fee;
- All food business operators have to compulsorily quote FSSAI License number in all bills from 1st October 2021
- Other recent important announcements related to Food and Agri Sector including some critical INFOSAN Announcement on Food Products Recall.
Similarly, NABL has announced mandatory QR Code in all Test Reports issued by Accredited Testing Labs with immediate effect. This is done to help users check the authenticity of the Test Reports issued. All Testing and Calibration Centres have to mandatorily use QR Code in all Test Reports issued.
In addition to the same, DPIIT has launched Unified Laboratory Network – Parak Portal to bring all Accredited and Recognised Labs in the Country under single registry to enable all end users, industry to refer accredited labs details at a single location. This is created to help user industries and consumers to look for all Accredited, Recognised Labs in the country under one platform , to improve the user confidence and to let the users know that a product or service has reached their hands after many lab tests .
All these initiatives are rolled out to ensure that Consumers Welfare, Health & Wellbeing is not compromised and Consumers are assured of Safe Food Chain .
Hence Andhra Chamber is organising this session to educate all Food and Agri business units about these important announcements from Food Safety Regulator and National Accreditation Board for Testing Labs.
