World Food Safety Day Webinar 2026 – June 7th 2026 – Sunday – 3 OO pm – 05 30 pm IST
Global Theme : From Burden to Solutions – Safe Food Everywhere
World Food Safety Day 2026 – Building Safer Food Systems Through Collaboration
Every year, June 7 is observed globally as World Food Safety Day 2026 to raise awareness about the importance of safe food and to encourage collective action toward preventing, detecting, and managing foodborne risks. The Day highlights the critical role that food safety plays in protecting public health, enabling sustainable trade, strengthening economies, and ensuring consumer confidence across global food supply chains.
World Food Safety Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 and is jointly facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The observance brings together governments, regulators, food businesses, laboratories, certification bodies, standards organizations, academia, industry associations, consumer groups, and market stakeholders to create stronger food safety ecosystems worldwide.
The Global Theme for 2026 — “From Burden to Solutions – Safe Food Everywhere” — emphasizes the urgent need to move beyond identifying food safety risks and toward implementing practical, science-based, scalable solutions that ensure safe food reaches every consumer, everywhere. The theme recognizes that unsafe food continues to create a significant global burden through foodborne illnesses, disruptions in trade, regulatory challenges, product recalls, reputational risks, and economic losses. It also highlights the importance of collaborative solutions involving standards, conformity assessments, regulations, digital traceability, risk management systems, and responsible marketplace practices.
In today’s interconnected global economy, conversations among marketplace stakeholders are becoming increasingly critical. Food supply chains now extend across countries and continents, involving producers, processors, exporters, importers, logistics providers, laboratories, retailers, regulators, accreditation bodies, and certification agencies. Ensuring trust in such complex systems requires alignment on international standards, robust certification and inspection mechanisms, harmonized regulations, transparent traceability systems, and mutual recognition frameworks. Discussions among stakeholders help strengthen regulatory compliance, facilitate international trade, reduce technical barriers, improve consumer confidence, and support public health objectives.
From a global trade perspective, food safety is no longer only a public health issue; it is also a strategic trade and market access issue. Countries increasingly rely on internationally accepted standards such as Codex Alimentarius, ISO-based food safety management systems, laboratory accreditation frameworks, inspection protocols, and conformity assessment mechanisms to demonstrate compliance and build trust across markets. As governments tighten import regulations and consumers become more conscious about food quality, sustainability, and transparency, businesses must continuously adapt to evolving standards and regulatory expectations.
Against this backdrop, Consultants Consortium of Chennai is organizing a special webinar as part of its June Month Knowledge Series 2026 to commemorate World Food Safety Day 2026.
